STUDENT VOICES

Still the mind. Let me guide you to your own knowing.

Here are some moments of reconnection shared by students who found their way back to themselves.

As a student in Valentina's classes you can always feel how much joy Yoga brings her and how she tries to share it with you. Also no matter what surroundings (next to an orchestra practice or even on a mountain) she manages to transform them into a comfortable and safe environment where you can relax. She's also always trying to better herself and actively seeks feedback from the students. I can only recommend!!!

Valentina has such a calming voice and she explains everything so nicely. I was a total beginner in yoga but I never felt judged for not knowing anything. I also really like how Valentina explains why we do what we do in the class so we get a good understanding of yoga. I always come out of Valentina‘s yoga class with a clear mind and a relaxed body.🧘‍♀️❤️

The effort she puts in truly amazes me every time. She is always so well prepared and doesn’t just give the session because she has done it before, but because she is commited to her passion.

my journey...

rooted in nature's movement

I was born and raised in Costa Rica, and before I embarked on a journey to find my place as a dancer in the world, I lived encompassed by nature. I grew up surfing, riding horses, dancing on the seashore, and journaling at the top of the trees. A fairytale-like childhood in the paradise of Nosara is the basis for the person that I am today. So, from a young age, the understanding of the intrinsic connection between nature, spirit, body, and mind came naturally. Now, after having experienced a very different reality in the city and met a lot of wonderful people from everywhere, a view on life rooted in presence is what allows me to bring my own holistic understanding of yogic philosophy into practice.

my dance journey

After spending most of my childhood dancing on the shores of Playa Pelada, I moved abroad at a very young age to train at Canada's National Ballet School. After four years of very hard work, I graduated in 2025 and began a new adventure dancing with a youth company in Switzerland. My dance journey has been my greatest teacher. Leaving home at fourteen meant making a dream come true, but it also meant sacrificing all the other things that I loved: my family, my home, my country, my language, nature, and basically swapping normal teenage experiences for intense training six days a week. It was an experience that brought many moments of joy and gratitude, but also challenges that made me deeply question who I am, which is where yoga comes in.

hatha yoga is more than poses - my philosophy

...in my last years training at NBS, I went through stages of burnout and injury that drastically impacted my mental health. I felt lost, disconnected, and scared because I felt that I was giving away my life for something that seemed to only bring me pain. And that is where yoga comes in. After all, yogic wisdom is what has propelled me to move and evolve forward, still with dedication and resilience, but also with more self-compassion, and the slow understanding of how my harmful tendency to force my way through everything was harming me. Yoga has taught me the importance of detaching from self-imposed labels (such as "I am a dancer," which caused a lot of suffering when things didn't go well). It has taught me that it's more valuable to trust my body and my path in life than to try to force my way into a specific door. It has taught me to trust my breath. It has taught me to observe my thoughts and emotions rather than let them control me. It has helped me question myself at the deepest levels, which constantly leads me to discover new parts of myself and slowly remember who I am at my core. I think it's foremost important to say that I do not have "my own philosophy," as the real yoga is a wisdom that has been passed down for millennia. Yoga is an empirical practice based on a perennial philosophy that began in India, and though everyone, including myself, has a unique journey of self-discovery, I follow the books and texts of teaching passed down by the experience of generations of yogis. Like many things, yoga has been appropriated to fit Western ideas of "wellness," so I place a lot of value on giving my students the closest thing to a traditional practice, and continuing my own self-practice as is vital in the yoga journey. Plus, I have a genuine interest in yogic philosophy because it has genuinely changed my life and the way I live it, and I think that if more people were able to apply it to their daily lives, the world would be a much better place. I specialize in hatha yoga: the uniting of opposite energies to bring harmony. Yoga, at its essence, means stilling the fluctuations of the mind to experience pure self-awareness. The map to inner peace is out there, and I'm simply here to facilitate that journey. That is why we practice following Patanjali's eightfold path, because yoga is so much more than just physical postures, and it takes more than one asana class to truly understand that.

“Sthira Sukham Asanam” ("postures should be steady and comfortable") — Patanjali Growing up enveloped in the jungle taught me that movement isn't something you perform; it's something you inhabit. Studying at a professional ballet school in the city from the age of fourteen taught me discipline and resilience, but also self-acceptance and compassion after learning hard lessons. Deepening my yoga practice showed me that harmony is found when these two realities learn to coexist: softness and firmness, receptivity and strength, playfulness and responsibility, dreams and action. This is yoga. And this is what I want to share with you.
